Introduction
The Organizing Authority
The Châlons-en-Champagne agglomeration counts almost 70.000 inhabitants, bringing together 13 communes: Châlons-en-Champagne, Compertrix, Coolus, L’Epine, Fagnières, Moncetz-Longevas, Recy, Saint-Etienne au Temple, Saint-Gibrien, Saint-Martin-sur-le-pré, Saint-Memmie, Sarry, and la Veuve.
It is home to magnificent reminders of the past - such as the Collégiale Notre-Dame-en-Vaux and the Basilique Notre-Dame de l'Epine, both of which are UNESCO world heritage sites – this Ville d'Art et d'Histoire is very much appreciated by visitors.
Served by the TGV EST high-speed railway line since June 2007, the agglomeration is developing at the heart of a region that is much envied for its wealth of natural resources. With a strong infrastructure and an excellent geographical location, as well as the nearby Paris-Vatry international airport, its economic development is oriented in particular towards transport and logistics.
An oasis of green amid the vast fertile plains of chalky Champagne, the Cities of Champagne have conserved all those natural assets that are essential to the quality of life of its inhabitants. The organization of the first local ‘Grenelle de l'Environnement’ in France has just been awarded the ‘Marianne d'Or’ for the Environment and Sustainable Development.

The network
The SITACBUS network for the Chalons agglomeration network has 8 lines and 29 buses at its disposal. With more than 17.000 passengers boarding the buses every day, the network has been successful in attracting a loyal clientele of more than 3 million passengers per year. Its simple and practical ticketing system makes it easy for passengers to use the bus. The safety of passengers is effectively ensured, through regular inspections and the presence of video monitoring cameras in all buses. These cameras are radio-connected to the control centre. With SITACBUS, the bus is my new car !
The Organizing Authority has entrusted the management of its public transport network to the Kéolis-Châlons-en-Champagne company.
This is a subsidiary of the Kéolis group – France’s top public passenger transport operator.
The Keolis group (an SNCF subsidiary) is present in 7 European countries as well as in Canada. On behalf of the Public Transport Authorities, it operates their passenger transport networks, working alongside them to offer users a high-quality, high-performance tool at the best possible cost.
